LATIN STYLE: PASO DOBLE

The five Latin dances are the Samba, Cha-Cha-Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive. With their heritage in Latin American (Samba, Cha-Cha-Cha, Rumba), Hispanic (Paso Doble) and American (Jive) cultures, they each have their distinguishing traits but coincide in expressiveness, intensity and energy.

Paso Doble

A cousin of Flamenco, this Ballroom dance is most often seen on the competitive or showdance floor.

However, it makes a fun and dramatic social dance too. Originating in Spain, it developed on the basis of movements performed by the matadors during the bull fights. In Paso Doble the man (matador) is in focus more than in any other dance. The lady is left with playing a role of a cape (“cappa”) the red canvas of the toreador or a bull, depending on circumstances. Paso Doble is one of the most dramatic dances you will ever see.
